Minutemen Win Cocorico 7s
Cocorico Sevens featured teams from three different states, as well as the District of Columbia this past weekend. Minutemen Sevens rampaged through their pool, and ran a quality Howard County Hurricanes side in the final 52-0 to take it all.
The Minutemen are a select team chosen from private schools in the DC area; the only points they gave up during the tournament were to a very tough Vipers team that was a select team comprised of players from private schools in Baltimore.
The Minutemen defeated Hempstead (PA) 19-0, Vipers #1 (Md.) 33-12, and Vipers #2 (Md.) 38-0. The Minutemen attack was led by Jack Warnick (Saint John's), Patrick McHale (Georgetown Prep), and Gonzaga pair Cole Woleford and Arthur Ferridge.
The Hurricanes had a tougher path to the final slugging out tight victories in pool play against Vipers #1, Winchester (Va.) 27-20, and Chambersburg (Pa.) 24-14. The Hurricanes were led by Arthur Dehareng (Walt Whitman/Maryland Exiles), Alex Rabaza (Howard/Maryland Exiles), AJ Conway (Howard/Maryland Exiles) and Jonas Hulbert (Mount Hebron/HOCO Hurricanes)
The final as a lopsided affair, as pressure from the Minutemen and fatigue on the part of the Hurricanes led to multiple turnovers. Minutemen Coaches Aiden Perrenoud and Finn Tuite were pleased with the quality of rugby their team played on the weekend.
This tournament concludes a busy summer sevens season in Rugby Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic Region.
