Major Showdowns This Weekend in Boys HS Rugby
June is here and for a lot of leagues this marks the end of the season. However, as we all know, things are different these days and we actually have a bunch of games, some of which are playoff matchups.
The biggest game of the weekend is probably St. Ignatius vs Moeller in the Ohio Super Elite Final. Since opening its season with a loss to the Charlotte Tigers, Ignatius (ranked #2 among school teams) has been continually improving, knocking off, among others, St. Edward, Moeller, Royal Irish (with whom they split), Aspetuck, and Gonzaga.
Moeller (school team #8) is having one of its best seasons and has beaten Dwenger, Penn, Brownsburg and, in the Ohio semifinals, St. Edward.
In CIRA Regis (#10 school team) faces Monarch as that season comes to a close, and Friday night sees a showdown of the best teams in Minnesota with #33 HS Club Eagan against #45 Albert Lea. The Virginia playoffs get going, and we have another showdown with SOC Raptors (HS Club #7) vs Thunder (#10) in SoCal. This is a tossup game and could have a lot to do with National Championship seeding as both teams will be attending. And two other teams going to Nationals, #26 School Team Xavier and #8 HS Club Aspetuck clash in Connecticut. And Sunday Royal Irish (Club #3) faces the Raleigh Redhawks (#13) on Kentucky.
