Davenport at Lindenwood Mens' College Game Postponed
Davenport vs Lindenwood slated for this week has been called off.
Reportedly a Davenport player tested positive for COVID-19 following the team's pre-game testing.
This was set to be Davenport's conference opener but now won't be played. Davenport has undergone some changes of late. Having done well to improve its results under Coach Lance Hohaia, and bringing in some well-regarded recruits, including Sean Nolan, Colin Turner, and Ethan Howard, from the 2019 HS Club National Champion Back Bay team, Davenport promptly lost their coach.
Hohaia was hired away by nearby Aquinas College in January, leaving it up to Dustin Steedman to take over as interim Head Coach. Steedman does have an effective team, but hasn't been on the job for long.
Hohaia, meanwhile, has been recruiting players to Aquinas. His Davenport team was 5-2-1 in the shortened 2019-2020 season before the COVID shutdown.
"I am very excited to be joining the Aquinas Saints family," said Hohaia on the announcement of his hiring by Aquinas. "It is a terrific opportunity for me. I look forward to the challenge of building this program and I believe that my experiences in the sport over the past 20 years will help me lead Aquinas rugby into this new era."
Davenport, meanwhile, has likely had to scramble to get ready for the season. The Panthers have Iowa Central, Life, Arkansas State, and Lindenwood still on their schedule for the spring.
Lindenwood will play an instrasquad match between the already-announced lineup and those who weren't named to play.
