Americans Overseas: Europe Beckons
With the European Cup competitions underway, professional clubs in Europe got to see a different type of competition this week.
USA prop David Ainu'u ran on as a sub at prop for Toulouse and helped them seal a 29-22 victory over Ulster in Pool B.
Sale had more possession and much more territory than Toulon, but turned the ball over more and missed tackles at key moments as Toulon won 26-14. AJ MacGinty converted both tries for Sale, but those tries came far too late.
Titi Lamositele came on at tighthead prop for the last 31 minutes for Montpellier, but the French club lost 35-14 to Leinster.
In the Challenge Cup, Greg Petersen got a well-deserved rest for the Newcastle Falcons. He has been putting in a full 80 just about every week.
National Competitions
In France's Pro D2, Deion Mikesell started at right wing for Carcassonne in a 606 tie with RC Vannes.
In the English Women's Premiership, Exeter lost 14-7 to Loughborough despite the best efforts of Gabby Cantorna and Kate Zackary. Zackary was voted by fans as Exeter's player of the month, however.
And while Harlequins didn't play this past weekend, they have been looking good and USA back Kristine Sommer has been a huge part of that. She scored the week before.
