MARC Confirms No Fall Rugby
The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference has confirmed that it will not hold a fall season.
The MARC will not be able to operate due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The MARC will not sanction competitive collegiate rugby for the Fall of 2020. No conference play, no playoffs.
The Board of Directors voted not to sanction MARC play in the 2020 Fall for Men’s DIAA, Men’s and Women’s DII, Men’s Small College, or Men’s Fall 7s.
"This decision did not come easy," said a statement released by MARC President John Gulden. "But a majority of our members are unable to compete or participate in off campus activities due to university guidelines. The MARC will be working with the NCR and ACRA to assist our members during these challenging times."
Gulden continued to urge teams to follow state, local, and federal guidelines. The MARC serves teams in five states, so local guidelines will be different for different colleges.
"Our members also need to follow their university, NCR, ACRA, and USA Rugby guidelines for all team activities including the need to register players, coaches and their team with appropriate entity for insurance purposes if you are allowed to participate on campus or in other activities," said Gulden's statement.
The MARC will continue to monitor changes and update our members as they happen. The Board will convene to discuss the steps going forward with the Spring 2021 season.
"Even though we will not be having a Fall season we encourage our members to stay active on campus and in their community," said Gulden.
