Young Players Can Show Skills, Meet College Coaches at LA MLR Game
The Los Angeles Major League Rugby, the LA Giltinis, will be holding a College Rugby Showcase for high school and U23 rugby players leading up to Saturday's game against the San Diego Legion.
Players who are as young as freshman in high school up to U23 are invited to attend.
"Rather than do a curtain-raiser game, we wanted to connect with a larger group of players," said former USA captain Todd Clever, who is working with the Giltinis on this project. "This way, we can see lots of players go through stations drills run by college coaches, and then the players can interact and meet with the coaches after that. I think this is a pretty cool way to have the Giltinis team get involved with the community game."
Coaches from several California college rugby programs will be in attendance, including USC, UCLA, San Diego State, Cal State Long Beach, and Cal Maritime.
Players will go through a series of drills and skill tests, and then also participate in a panel discussion with the coaches to talk about their programs, and also issues regarding admissions requirements, camps, tuition, campus visits, and the college rugby Experience.
The players will then stay to watch the Giltinis vs Legion MLR game.
The price for all of this is $15 (before taxes and fees) and includes access to the showcase and the MLR Game. Space is limited. For information about tickets please contact tickets@giltinis.com or call the Ticketing Office at (424)290-3059.
