Wilson Returns From Winter Break With A Win
Wilson HS defeated Warren HS 49-12 Saturday in Southern California Varsity White action.
t was a wet day and that led to some handling errors and turnovers on both sides.
"It wasn't pretty," said Wilson Head Coach Tony Balasuriya. "Coming back [from winter break] the boys looked rugby and it took us a half to get settled down." However, part of that was also due to a strong effort from Warren. Balasuriya said he was impressed with the effort from Warren on both sides of the ball.
For Wilson, Zack Desembrana and Ezra Rey led the Wilson team defensively while Ethan Moxley and scrumhalf Peter Sio showed well with the ball in hand.
"We need to work on the fitness of the forwards," said Balasuriya. "Got to get the holiday food out of the players. We're looking at our younger brothers at Saint Anthony's next week."
Saint Anthony's, like Wilson High School, is a program run by coaches out of the Belmont Shore Rugby Club, and so the coaches know each other and some of the players either move on to play HS club rugby with Belmont Shore or played in Belmont Shore's youth program.
