Two Notable Additions To CIRA
Two Notable Additions To CIRA
The Colorado Interscholastic Rugby Association, the new league of school- and school-district-supported high school teams in the Centennial State, has added two new schools and four new teams.
Central High School in Grand Junction, Colo. will bring a boys team and girls team to the league, and so will Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch.
Colorado Interscholastic League Schedule Coming Together
What's notable about these two programs is that they didn't have a school-supported, or even a club drawing only from those schools, before this year. There has been a HS club out of Grand Junction, but it's still new to have Central HS in competition in the state. Valor Christian is notable in part because it's a very accomplished school when it comes to athletics. Valor has won the state football title eight times, most recently in 2018.

For Valor to field its own rugby team is news within high school sports in the state.
Central girls will join the 7s league that will play this spring while Valor's girls team will start next school year. Both schools will also field boys 15s teams that will play later in the spring, starting at the end of April. Reports are that both started their school-supported teams because of the formation of the CIRA.
So the current list of teams in CIRA is as follows:
Girls:
Arapahoe High School
Central High School
Denver East High School
Monarch High School
Regis Jesuit High School
Summit High School
Valor Christian High School (starting next school year)
William J Palmer High School
Boys:
