SoCal HS Club Playoffs Set
SoCal HS Club Playoffs Set
The playoffs are set in the Southern California HS Club boys league.
South Bay and Back Bay won via forfeit, as did the Irvine Rhinos.
In the game actually played, Belmont Shore continued their run of strong results with a 27-23 defeat of Santa Monica in an intense contest. As a result, Belmont Shore ends up 6-0, Back Bay 5-1, and Santa Monica 4-2. All three Gold North teams are into the playoffs.
In the Gold South, th Aztec Warriors defeated San Clemente 37-21 but it was too little too late for them. Irvine got the forfeit win and also beat Wallabies 74-34. The San Diego Mustangs shut out Tri-City.
So that made three teams ending the regular season 5-1 - Rhinos, Coastal Dragons, and Mustangs. The Dragons beat the Rhinos 10-5 in a shortened game at the Fullerton Youth Tournament, and that meant the Rhinos got a losing bonus point. That bonus point ensured that Irvine and the Mustangs tied with 26 points, and the Rhinos took 1st on the tiebreaker.
The Tri-Counties Conference was idle, and Arroyo Grande and Orca already are the top two.
So here are the playoff matchups:
Back Bay at Arroyo Grande
Orca at Belmont Shore
Santa Monica at Irvine Rhinos
San Diego Mustangs v Coastal Dragons
The first three games will be played April 29. It will be a tough road game for Back Bay and also for Orca. The final game, Mustangs v Dragons, will be delayed because both teams will be in Hawaii for the Pacific Cup. It's possible those two will play in the Pacific Cup knockout rounds. If they do, the game will also double as the SoCal quarterfinal. If not, then they are slated to play May 3.
