RugbyTens Series in California Has Features that Set It Apart

See more at RugbyTens.com.

Mixed play is an exciting concept of tournament play that the Rugby Tens tournament is championing.

The Rugby Tens Series—rugbytens.com—is slated for October and November. The Series has a bracket for U18s and also a senior 10-a-side competition with teams from all over the world. The first tournament is set for October 4 in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. and will be shown live on The Rugby Network.

The Series has three things that set it apart:

1. Prize money. $500,00 in cash and $500,000 worth of other prizes are at stake through the Series.

2. 10-a-side rugby. This is a form of rugby that is popular throughout the world. While it started as a way for teams to play a more contact style of the game than 7s when they didn't have enough players for 15s, Rugby Tens is also played at a high level. It combines the smaller squads and multiple games in a day with a good amount of contact, real scrums, and real mauls.

3. The Mixed Championship

So the way the Mixed Championship works is that each division within the RugbyTens Series has the same franchises for each division.

So part of the championship is not only how the Men's, Women's, U18 Boys, and U18 Girls teams do, we actually have them participate in the same game.

Matches are played by pairing teams of different genders and/or age groups with each half of the match featuring a different division. So, for example, in a game the first half might be between two women's teams, and then in the second half the same  two franchises take the field with their men's teams. The men's teams, in this example, would inherit the halftime score from the women's teams.

Because (of course) the same divisions are playing against each other, you could mix it up any way. You could see a U18 Girls team score at the end of the game to win it for the Senior Men's team that played the first half.

The RugbyTens Series will see tournaments October 4, 12, 18, and 26 in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

This will be followed with the Championship with Pool Play November 23 and 27, and the finals November 30.
