Rugby Indiana Embraces Touch Rugby
Rugby Indiana has kicked off its series of touch rugby tournaments and the response has been very positive.
On a day that started cold and wet and ended with a little fall sunshine, high school players played touch rugby league—no tackles, no mauls, no scrums, but plenty of passing and running—and reacquainted student-athletes with the sport.
"I cannot stress enough how great it was to see those teams out playing rugby," said Rugby Indiana Executive Director Wayne Eells. "Lots of communication as they were playing, lots of passing and experimentation as they played. A great first week."
"[It] was a great day at the pitch," enthused Carmel HS Girls Head Coach Kelly Romano.
Players and coaches followed state and local guidelines, but the key has been the organization's willingness to adjust how they play the sport to ensure players got outside.
