RPI Takes Liberty D2 Championship

RPI moves on to the national playoffs.

RPI garnered revenge for their earlier loss to Marist, beating the Foxes 33-29 in hte Liberty D2 final.

The victory booked a spot in the NCR D2 playoffs for the Engineers and cruelly left out a very good Marist team, as Liberty only gets the one seed.

The RPI effort was certainly led by Ray Santiago, who scored multiple tries for his side every game and scored three times in this match. This despite the fact that the big forward gets constant attention from defenses.

"I played my normal aggressive game," said Santiago.

However, the Old Glory draftee was not the only star of the game.

Flyhalf Quinten Pienaar had an outstanding afternoon, seeing the field well and becoming a threat whether it was with his kicking, his distribution, or his running.

Meanwhile, defensively, Gain O'Farrell and Bennard Amponsah were outstanding and also added a spark on attack.

Or, as Santiago told GRR, "they were animals."

Santiago added that the key has always been a team approach from RPI.

"It was a great team effort," he said. "A lot of guys stepped into their roles. Our continuity has really become a weapon."

With the victory RPI will go into the NCR D2 Round of 16.
