Rhino Rugby will be hosting a cross-divisional 10-a-side series in October and November, welcoming teams from all over the world to compete for $1 million worth of prizes.

The competition begins October 4 in San Clemente, Calif. with six teams set to compete. The host franchise, the San Clemente Rhinos, will join with the Balkans Honey Badgers out of Europe and the Middle East, Cape Town Wild Dogs out of South Africa, and the Serengeti Elephants out of East Africa. The San Diego Legion is slated to enter along with a to-be-confirmed sixth team.

There will also be invitational teams brought in throughout the Series.

The initial Series will see teams play multiple 10-a-side games during the day on October 4, October 12, and October 18.

This will all culminate in a playoff and Series Cup finish October 26.

Franchises will compete in four divisions:

Men, Women, Boys, Girls.

Some of the games will be mixed play, in which, for example, two men's lineups will play each other for one half, and then the women's teams of the same franchises will finish the game in the second half, with the score being tallied as normal. This mirrors a trend in other sports (track relays, swimming relays, triathlon relays) in which men and women compete on the same overall team for a combined performance.

Teams are competing for $500,000 in prize money plus $500,000 in in-kind support through high performance sponsorship.

10-a-Side Rugby

Rugby 10s has a long history and usually sees teams play with six forwards (no flankers) and four backs, or also five forwards (no flankers or No. 8) and five backs. As with Rugby 7s, there is more field to cover, the games are therefore shorter, but that allows competitors to play more games during the day.

It's not unusual to play two or three or four games in a day's competition.
