Week Two of the RugbyTens in San Juan Capistrano is in the books and the Serengeti Elephants and Cape Town Wild Dogs are still overall leading.

But they did get upended at least once.

Mixed Player

In the Mixed Final the Elephants men handed over a not unattainable 12-0 lead at halftime. But two yellow cards in the women's half put the Serengeti women on the back foot. Except it didn’t. The Honey Badgers should have sent the ball wide and tested the space up two players, but instead insisted on running into contact. The result was a turnover, and then the Elephants played bash ball because they didn’t have an overlap, and scored.

That made it 19-0 and they cruised from there 31-0. The Cape Town Wild Dogs beat San Clemente Rhinos 31-14 to take third. A late try in the first half made it 14-14 at the break. In the women's half it seemed like it would be as competitive, and in fact the Wild Dogs had to defend in their end for several minutes. But off a quick-tap Alicia Willemse blazed 50 meters to give Cape Town the lead. The Wild Dogs scored twice more to put it away.

In the Men's play, San Clemente fell behind 12-0 and then scored to make it 12-5. But a turnover in their end was punished by the Honey Badgers to seal the game. That was one of the two closest games in the bracket. In the other, the Wild Dogs were very quick and like the Rhinos-Badgers game, their opposition was getting close before a key game-sealing try. This time it was good ball movement that saw them through.

In the Women's play, the Elephants dominated. They had no trouble moving the ball quickly and that trust with each other, plus a nice combination of speed and power in contact, saw them to 2-0.
