Powerful Start for Long Beach Poly Girls
With wins over Los Alamitos and View Park Prep, and a forfeit win also, Long Beach Poly has put a big stamp on the early part of their girls HS season.
LB Poly vs Los Alamitos
Poly took control of this game right from the start. With captain Gianna Diaz's leadership and he setting up her teammates, Nila Lolesio-Pua, Khalea Pahulu, and Denise Herrera-Cruz were able to find space and score.
The Poly defense was very strong.
"We haven't worked on it for the last month but it seems like they never missed a ste," said Head Coach Robert Pahulu. "They are attacking the line and are very hard and aggressive."
The stingy defensive effort was led by Sydney-Rae Pua, Lolua Tauanu'u, Allison Honeycutt, Renny Jenning-Faletoi, and Aries Popoali'i and Long Beach Poly won 40-0.
LB Poly vs View Park
As Long Beach Poly's depth grows they need more game time and in this one first-time players Elisapeta Talia and Amylia Petaia both scored their first try. Selieni Paseka and Ezralynn Fa'atiliga also made their debut and were strong on defense. Captain Gianna Diaz led this group to a pretty comprehensive 32-0 victory.
"We have a few things to work on," said Pahulu. "Although we shut both teams down, we still need to tighten up loose ends defensively. Offense, we need to do better playing at our own pace and capitalizing on our set plays. The longer we have the ball the better. I'm still pleased with their performance and we will continue to work harder every day."
Also this first week of Winter Girls action, Rancho Bernardo beat Torrey Pines 34-0 and Tesoro HS 26-19. Fallbrook, not surprisingly, won twice in convincing fashion, shutting out San Marcos and also Westview.
