PAC Conference Officially DIA
PAC Conference Officially DIA
LAFAYETTE, Colo. – USA Rugby and DIA confirmed what had been reported on GRR that a new PAC Rugby Conference will join DIA for the 2016-17 season.
What is different from the original report is who will be in the PAC Conference. There appeared at the beginning to be a move to make two separate conferences of Pac-12 teams, with the independent conference that has played the last few years being one, and a separate, DIA conference, being another.
But that's not how it has come about. The existing independent group of Cal, UCLA, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, and Oregon State has seen Oregon State leave and Stanford and USC join. Stanford comes from the Pacific West, and USC from the Gold Coast, both DIAA.
So the new-look PAC Rugby Conference includes Cal, UCLA, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, and USC.
There remains talk about getting the Pacific Northwest Pac-12 schools involved, but that's not happening this year.
Cal returns to the DIA fold, but what post-season the Bears will pursue might depend on how the Varsity Cup progresses over the next few weeks.
