NZ Torches USA in Atlanta
No possession and no lucky breaks, the USA women were completely and utterly dominated by New Zealand 57-0 at the Atlanta 7s.
New Zealand were brilliant, dominating possession by winning their restarts and being aggressive in the breakdown, while the USA missed too many first-up tackles. The score doesn’t show the hard work the USA put in, not does it show a variety of strange calls that hurt them - a forward pass that led to a try, and some ruck infractions that also helped New Zealand along.
But that wouldn’t have changed who won, just by how much.
As it is, the big loss didn’t prevent the USA from making the Cup Quarterfinals, but it did hurt their points differential, meaning the Eagles will be seeded 6th in the QFs behind the other 2nd-place teams, France and Canada.
The Eagles will face Australia in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
