New Rugby Venue In Tennessee Opens With Tournament
Tennessee HS teams will be on the field this weekend with a special event at a new venue in the central part of the state.
All active teams in Middle Tennessee, plus the Tennessee Rugby Academy out of Knoxville will play. This is the official opening event at the new Sumner County Pitches just north of Nashville. The venue boasts two full, international-size rugby pitches with huge, 40-foot rugby posts.
The event will have 7s scrimmages throughout the day. They will be the first ever rugby games of any kind played on these fields.
Following the games there will be a ribbon-cutting.
"We are really excited," said Richard Boone, Director of the Middle Tennessee Conference. "Brian Silkwood and the Sumner County All-Blacks have done an amazing job with the City of Hendersonville in securing these fields, grading them, irrigating them, sprigging them with Bermuda, adding a parking lot, and now raising even more money to put in bathrooms and lights."
Also at the event will be the Panther Rugby Academy running various athletic challenges and explaining how their program is developing now that the Academy is an official national Development Program with USA Rugby.
