NCR Names Board Roles, Says Goodbye To Chivers
National Collegiate Rugby has announced that it has confirmed four new officers on its board of directors, and also that a longtime figure within the organization is stepping down.
Rafael Zahralddin will be the President of the Board. Zahralddin has been involved in rugby, especially with the Philadelphia-Whitemarsh club, for decades and also has served as a legal advisor and lawyer for NCR.
Jayme Pendergast is the new Vice President. The Athletics Director at Life University, Pendergast oversees two elite-level collegiate rugby programs, but she also has a small-college background, serving the Athletics Department at Elon University for several years.
Kyle Smith, who played rugby at Elon and later coached there, is a CPA and audit specialist and will be the organization's treasurer. Brett Anker, who has been hugely active in the organization, worked as a successful journalist in rugby, and now works with Penn Mutual, is the organization's secretary.
Meanwhile, NCR also announced that Bryn Chivers is stepping down from his position as Director of Women’s Rugby. Chivers started working at NCR when it was the National Small College Rugby Organization in 2013 and worked hard to grow the game through programs around the country, and also to run NSCRO's women's all-star program. He will remain commissioner of the Prairie States conference in NCR, and as Head Coach of the University of South Dakota.
Said NCR CEO Jeremy Treece in an announcement: "Bryn’s unrelenting commitment to supporting and growing women’s rugby will be hard to match."
A search is on the way for a new Director of Women's Rugby. Angela Smarto will handle that role on an interim basis.
