Montana State Taking Steps in 7s
In the flood of results from the Las Vegas Invitational, it would be understandable if you missed what Montana State did.
With a shutout win over Michigan State, a tie with James Madison, and some competitive losses to some other well-regarded teams, they finished 2nd in their pool and took some important steps forward.
“Overall I’m happy with the performance,” said Head Coach Joseph Williams. “This is only our second season of 7’s and we are still learning. I also like that we are hanging with teams who have been playing regularly and this is our first time out of the gym.”
Junior Luke Ryan led the team in scoring, showing some shifty feet and good leadership. Austin Llewllyn is a strong runner and plays some strong defense. He was the team MVP for the tournament.
This is just the start, and you might be seeing the Fighting Bobcats more as they build on their 7s game. Up next (after hosting a blood drive), Montana State plays at the Colorado State 7s, they host their own tournament, and then play at the Air Force 7s in May.
