Miles McCormick Named School Athlete Of The Year
Cathedral Catholic High School senior, Miles McCormick, currently the only high school rugby player vying for a spot on the USA U20 team, was named the Cathedral Catholic Male Athlete of the Year and Winter Season MVP during the annual Cathedral Athletic Awards Ceremony on May 13.
McCormick is the 5th Cathedral Catholic rugby player in the last six years to be named Winter MVP, but he is the first to receive Athlete of the Year honors. He joins past Winter MVPs Aaron Mitchell (SD Legion), Owen Duvall (Cal), Ryan James (USA U20s), and Adam Wilson (Arizona/Montana).
McCormick a four-year varsity starter, two-time team MVP, two-year captain, and was the first Southern California High School Rugby Player of the Year. During his high school career he has participated in numerous 7s and 15s elite programs at the local, territorial and national levels, Captaining the sides on multiple occasions. He graduated for the NZ Rugby Academy in 2018 and intends on returning to Wellington upon graduation to continue his education at the University of Victoria, where he will likely be playing club rugby in Wellington.
