Men's DI College Games This Weekend

The Red River kicks off after the teams in that conference have warmed up against teams in the Lonestar Conference.

Everyone needs a bit of a warmup, especially these days.

Here's a look at the Men's DIA, DIAA, and NCR DI games on the slate this week. As always ...

NCR DI

This list already has Iona's win over AIC (more here).

"I'm unsure how strong we are compared to anyone else because it's impossible to know how the other clubs managed their shutdowns," said St. Joe's Head Coach Nick Hunter. Interestingly, many other coaches say the Hawks are the team to beat. "I think we're as strong as we could possibly be considering they've spent more than a year without coaching or recruiting."

And being without most of the 2019 team as those players graduated. Last week against Temple SJU debuted four players. (They started the game without a fullback as an honor to Mark Dombroski, the St. Joe's player who died while at a 7s tournament in Bermuda.)

In the game, "we encountered a lot of adversity early on, which was our plan for the new guys," said Hunter. "We know if we have any shot at getting out of the conference and performing well, we're going to need every single player we have. So we try to spread the minutes and positions around as much as possible. Our team is fit. We get better as the game goes on. We like to do that kind of stuff and the boys laugh during conditioning when they have any breath at all."

They're building these hidden guerilla gyms everywhere. Everything we do is because we know were the smallest team anywhere we play. We're hoping to set a new floor of expectations and performance as we re-organize, and grow from this season as "year 1."
