The big question as we vote on the DIA rankings is what we do about St. Bonaventure losing to Notre Dame.
We had Notre at #41, and SBU up at #10 but that #10 ranking for Bonnies was heavily dependent on the team having beaten Notre Dame College. SBU had lost to Navy and Penn State, two teams we rate highly, but they weren't close against Navy. So it's a thin argument. Notre Dame, conversely, was held down due to losses, but every loss was very close. And while the Fighting Irish did lose to Tennessee and Bowling Green out of DIAA, they weren't beten badly.
So ... eventually you have to throw out a result. In this case, we decided to not get locked into St. Bonaventure having beaten Notre Dame College. We have to move NDC up after beating Army, and SBU down.
We moved Colorado up after a one-point victory over Utah Valley, and Boston College moves up. But then we come to Michigan State tying Minnesota. We've got no problem moving Michigan State down a bit after failing to close out this game. But Minnesota? They've only beaten Purdue and lost by a large margin to Michigan. Even though we think we might see a different result should the Gophers and the Wolverines meet again, we have to respect that result.
Meaning ... Michigan State ends up not really moving down at all, and Minnesota doesn't really move up at all. That result has to have a backup result.
