Marin Impressive In Preseason Clash
The Marin Highlanders looked very good in an opening non-conference game this past weekend in Northern California, shutting out Lamorinda.
The teams played a very tight first half. It's early in the season so all the links weren't quite there offensively, while both teams were happy to ramp up the physicality. Marin ented the break up only 5-0.
But in the second half the Highlanders opened it up with five tries.
Center Nick Janowsky, wing Julian Darafelle, center Maximo Tribuzio all scored tries while flyhalf Enzo Filipetto had a try, four conversion, and a penalty goal for 16 points. Hooker Joe Calzaretta, whose strong carrying put the Highlanders on the front foot all day, contributed two tries.
Flanker Andre Lopez and fullback Griffin Rudy both had strong days with ball in hand, making multiple breaks each. Lock Ryan Marshall dominated the aerial battle at the lineout.
After a strong showing at the Dennis Storer Classic Tournament, going 2-1, the Highlanders are now 2-0 in preseason. They now begin prepping for a physical matchup against Motherlode this week, followed by a tour to England and Wales in February.
