Marin Faces Eastside on Tour
In a preseason game for the Washington-based team, the Eastside Lions made the trip down south to Northern California to play the Marin Highlanders.
This was the second year in a row that the Lions played Marin to start their season. It is tough to find practice fields, let along game fields, in Washington until March comes around, so this trip is hugely valuable to Eastside.
The first half was a defensive battle, and the Highlanders entered halftime up only 3-0 thanks to a penalty goal from flyhalf Ian Ross.
In the second half Marin pulled away, slightly. The Highlanders held onto possession a little bit better and found space out wide, where wing Van Hampton and fullback Oscar Jordan-Shamis scored tries.
Ross converted the Jordan-Shamis effort and that's how the game ended, 15-0 for Marin.
"It's always great to play teams outside our league," said Marin head Coach John Vantress. "We appreciate Eastside making the trip down and hope to see them again next year."
Also in Northern California, De La Salle beat Mother Lode 22-5 (game report here>>) and Elsie Allen put in a very good result over Lamorinda 48-17.
