IUPUI opened up its new DI season with a 19-13 defeat of Purdue this past weekend.
Head coach Joe Richards said it was a nice confidence-builder for the program, but not to read too much into the result.
The game was not particularly tidy and both teams looked like exactly what they were — athletic college players who had just returned to campus.
“Both teams need work on playing as a team,” said Richards. “We didn’t have consistent phases, we had a few breakaways but not enough support.”
Purdue led almost the entire game, but with three minutes to go and the score 13-12 for Purdue, IUPUI freshman Brandon Griffin scored to put his side ahead.
Indiana University Purdue University Indiana (IUPUI) has joined the MAC in DIAA, and in doing so has elevated that conference to even greater heights. Bowling Green (pictured, Roger Mazzarella photo), the 2018-19 Fall DIAA champion returns and this league continues to be one of the best, top to bottom, in the division.
