Just over 30 games on the slate this week, weather permitting.

Check back for scores.

North Carolina's clash between Myers Park and South Meck, which we previewed a while ago, finally gets played. It's a massive Friday Night rivalry match and should get a big crowd as these two schools are rivals in any sport, and both are having good seasons this winter.

Southern California's SCIRF is having a series of crossover matches between the top Varsity league and the Varsity Gold league. Mission Bay has the best record so far in the Gold league and plays Mira Costa, which is 0-3 in the Varsity league, so we might see how the two measure up. La Costa Canyon is also solid in the Gold and plays 2-1 St. Augustine. The Saints are coming off a loss to Cathedral in which, said their Coach, Eric Dent, they lost their defensive shape and didn't really fire on attack. Too many knock-ons and missed tackles, basically.

In Northern California we have a couple of early games of note. Jesuit Sacramento travels to Fresno to face San Joaquin Memorial HS. The Fresno area had been on the road to developing their own conference when COVID slowed things down, and San Joaquin is carrying the banner for that area. And De La Salle, perhaps currently the favorite among school-supported teams in Northern California, takes on a Mother Lode team that beat Jesuit two weeks ago

There's a school-team championship in Northern California to coincide with the culmination of Southern California Youth Rugby's school championship, and then the top teams will meet for an all-state smackdown. This sort of thing is happening in Texas and Louisiana too, as those states have combined for a not-quite-official league of school teams playing throughout the season. Hence Strake Jesuit traveling to Austin this weekend to face Lake Travis. While Lake Travis has some prominent football alumni, it's worth noting that Westlake (which plays a couple of warmups in San Antonio), and Allen (which lost to Strake last week and plays St. Pius X this week) have more current NFLers.
