HS All-Star Tournament Dates Set
USA Rugby has announced where the Regional Cup Tournaments will be held.
These are the high school all-star events used as scouting for HS All Americans, colleges, and USA U20s.
The tournaments are as follows:
West Regional Cup Tournament June 9-10, 2018 Denver, CO
Northeast Regional Cup Tournament June 16-17. 2018 Rahway, NJ
Northwest Regional Cup Tournament June 22-23, 2018 Boise, ID
Midwest Regional Cup Tournament June 22-24, 2018 Fishers, IN
South Regional Cup Tournament June 22-24, 2018 Marrietta, GA
All of the locations are the same as last year, except Boise, which replaces Corvallis, Ore.
According to USA Rugby's report on this, the eligibility rules have changed for these tournaments yet again. Instead of Varsity and JV designations, now tournaments are being asked to run a Tier 1 and a Tier 2. Both tiers require all of the players to be enrolled in high school for the 2017-18 school year.
Tier 1 is for older players, with all players at least 16 years old by the event day, and who turn 19 after September 1, 2017. Tier 2 is for younger players, with all players needing to be at least 14 by the event day, and must be young than 17 by the event day.
This allows a little bit of player movement. Players who are 16 can basically play in either tier.
