Herriman Looks Set for NAI 7s
Herriman HS runs out an experienced 7s team to face some tough competition in the North American Invitational 7s this weekend in Salt Lake City.
Herriman will take on Play Rugby USA, Atlantis II, and ATAVUS Selects.
"The Elite division will be a huge challenge for sure, with several of our good underclassmen not available due to football," said Herriman Coach Jeff Wilson. "But we want to try and challenge ourselves as much as possible whenever we can - thankfully this one is in Salt Lake so that we do not have to travel. I am really happy to see high-level teams coming to Utah to play."
Sione Bloomfield, Tomasi Tonga, and Gabe Mahuinga provide a strong nucleus. All have played for the HS All Americans. Bloomfield graduated a year ago from Herriman HS, but is still only 18. Jaeron Masina, Mahuinga, and Taysan Hammer all played on the Cannibals team that did so well in Victoria this summer, while Zak Barker helped the Utah Cannibals U16s win in Victoria the summer before. Levi Hunt has captained the Utah Cannibals team.
"We were able to get nine players from our winning 7s team in Vegas out for this, so as long as we are healthy I think we have a chance to make a little noise," said Wilson. "But there are lots of awful good teams at this tournament.
