GRR HS School Team Rankings Week 10
GRR HS School Team Rankings Week 10
This was a difficult ranking to finalize not because of the changes at the top, but the changes throughout the middle.
We had a lot of results, including some teams ranked relatively low winning and some teams ranked higher up losing games. Sometimes a big loss drops you down far (depends on where the team is ranked) and sometimes it takes you down just a little bit. You have to look at it in part like a percentage but in reverse. Each place drop in the Top 10 is like a 10% drop in where they stand, because it is so difficult to be at that level.
Yes St. Ignatius lost (by a large margin) to Gonzaga, and it might seem putting Gonzaga up just one spot isn't enough ... but of course they are as high as they can go. Ignatius dropping three spots is "so what?" but it's not. It's a massive drop for a Top 10 team. Dropping from 19 to 38 is about the same.
Big gain for Rye. We might have overreacted, but that close loss to Xavier has to be, at the moment, rewarded.
LaSalle was dropped 18 spots after losing to Ignatius, and gains some of that back after beating St. Joe's. This is the time when these teams level out a bit. Dallas Jesuit drops heavily after losing in a shutout to Strake Jesuit. Also this could be an overreaction, but that's what we did.
St. Thomas lost to Detroit Central Catholic and dropped down too, with DCC coming into the Top 50. Also joining are Eagle, Fairfield Prep, and BC High. Keep an eye on Greenwich.
This might be the high water mark for Torrey Pines. They aren't playing anymore, and as results come in for De La Salle (idle this past weekend) and the rest they will drift down.
This coming week, LaSalle is due to tour Louisiana, Aquinas plays Regis Jesuit and Valor. Ignatius plays St. Xavier and Moeller plays St. Edward, which help us figure out Ohio. Xavier plays Vienna (!), De La Salle plays SFGG, Jesuit Sacramento plays Marin, and after the weekend Gonzaga is in France, Ignatius is in Japan, and Xavier is in Ireland.
