Grandville Girls Win Michigan
Grandville Girls Win Michigan
Grandville defeated Berkley 37-10 Saturday to win the Michigan girls HS state championship.
This was Grandville's third-straight state title. Led by captain and MVP Bethany Gable, and with some excellent play from sophomore Corryn Bush, Grandville finished off this season with their winning streak now at 29.
Berkley hung tough, especially in the first half during which they held the Bulldogs to just a 10-0 lead. But in the second half, Grandville began to pull away. Corryn Bush scored three tries, with Gable, Lizzy DeYoung, Angelina Pollica, and Addy Ochoa adding one apiece. CiCi Lowe converted one try.
It was a dominant season for Grandville, as the team came together quickly under coaches Magdalene Law, Dan Masterton, and Marisa Snieder. The work of strength and conditioning coach Tully Chapman also had a big influence as Grandville was stronger than anyone else in the second half and wore teams down.
