Fairfield Beats Ridgefield in Midweek Game
Fairfield Prep took a 43-10 win over Ridgefield on the opening game of the Rugby Connecticut Season this week.
Ridgefield maintained possession for first 20 minutes and ran big runner after big runner into Fairfield's defense. But Prep withstood the challenge and held them scoreless, later one getting the ball to start their attack. Tries from Christiopher Byun, Anthony Dorsi, Mike Silk, and Henry Tymniak to open up a solid lead. Ridgefield added a try late in the half in reply, capping off a nice chip-and-chase.
Ridgefield got some momentum from that try and scored another early in the second half. But Fairfield would reply with Brenna Valenzuela, SIlk again, and Jeremy Benton going over. Rob Murphy added the extras on four of the conversions for a 43-10 scoreline.
Brina Ignacio was outstanding for Ridgefield, playing intelligent rugby and showing good field awareness, but Ridgefield will want to tighten up their discipline as penalties hurt them. For Fairfield, some young players came in to fill in for injuries and did well. John Morris at flanker was relentless, Ben Conelius at fullback was mature and selfless.
