D2 Player of the Week: Jalen Greatrex, MTSU
Whenever you think you don't haven enough time to get something done, think about this guy.
This past weekend Middle Tennessee State defeated Southern Indiana and flyhalf Jalen Greatrex scored three tries and assisted on another in a 29-7 victory. Greatrex has moved from center to flyhalf for MTSU, and he has taken on the role.
He's an outstanding runner and sets up his centers night. He also defends exceptionally well and is very accomplished at poaching the ball in the breakdown.
But that's just on the field for Greatrex. He's also a father of a recently-born baby girl, so we know he's not getting any sleep. Helping raise his daughter and going to school and also captaining the MTSU rugby team might be more than most could do, but Greatrex also holds down a full-time job.
The Concrete Management Major operates a forklift truck to pay for his schooling.
"JJ has been an absolute baller for us this season," said MTSU Coach Dustin Lavender. "He's a great distributor. His kicking for restarts has been amazing. And he is a leader on and off the field."
MTSU has more to do this season, as they work their way through the Mid-East Conference. But they don't lack for commitment, and Jalen Greatrex is a perfect example of why, and our D2 Player of the Week.
