Cy-Fair Defeated Kingwood in Texas
Cy-Fair defeated Kingwood 43-19 this past weekend in Texas HS play.
Kingwood has been slammed with injuries, including HS All American Dillon Shotwell, and was able to field only 18 for the game on Friday night. Meanwhile, Cy-Fair is starting to improve play, with new center Quinterlo Baker impressing observers with his speed and evasiveness.
Baker scored three tries in a powerful display.
Baker scored thanks to a superb pass from James Leucke to open the scoring in the first five minutes. Kingwood answered back, driving down field to score. After the restart and a penalty against Cy-Fair, Kingwood took the advantage of position and scored again.
Cy-Fiar replayed when Keoni Francis recovered the restart - one of sveeral excellent plays Francis made on the night. Cy-Fair consolidated and a pick-and-go by prop David Phillips saw the big front-rower go 60 meters for the try. Francis broke through for a try and then Hagen Twardowski punched one over after a tough goalline stand by Kingwood.
In the second half, fullback Brian Smith scored and then Baker ran in two.
