Cortland Eyes Upstate Title
Last year's Upstate NY conference season was one full of questions, and sometimes a surprise answer.
SUNY Cortland looked to be the dominant team as they finished 8-0 in the regular season, but lost to SUNY Oswego in the playoffs. The road to the playoffs itself was interesting, as it wasn't until the last weekend of the season before we knew what the matchups were.
It's the same story, likely, this year. Several have a good case to be made to get to the playoffs this year, but the Cortland Wolfpack has a little bit of unfinished business.
"I think we are going to have a real good season," said Cortland Coach Mike Dotzler. "The season goal isn't going change for us. We are always trying to achieve that state title and get that berth into the national tournament, and the only way we can do that is if we stay healthy, stay conditioned, and stay together as a Wolfpack should.
The Wolfpack returns a large chunk of last year's team, and they are in their junior year. Captain and senior Bryan Carley and quick, powerfull wing Harrison Conn lead the team that Dotzler says should win the conference.
These are the games for this weekend. Watch out for Niagara (5-2-1 in 2015) at Buffalo State (5-3).
