Coast Guard Secures Playoff Spot
The Coast Guard Academy defeated Boston University 48-10 Saturday to improve to 7-2.
CGA was supposed to play a midweek game against Norwich on Wednesday to finish off the two teams' regular season, however, the NECRC conference was informed by USA Rugby that the #2 seed needed to be confirmed by the end of this weekend.
Coast Guard was expected to win the gane against Norwich, which would have left them 8-2 with 37 or 38 points in the standings. Then it was a case of waiting for the November 14 game between 8-1 Rhode Island and 7-2 Vermont. The winner of that game would be the NECRC #1.
So, Coast Guard has been assigned the NECRC #2 seed without playing the Norwich game. Vermont v URI will decide the #1 seed.

As for the game Saturday, Coast Guard Coach Cirst Holveck said his team showed its experience over BU, and was able to read gaps in the Terriers' defense.
"They had a tough time trying to break our defense," saod Holveck. BU had some injuries, said Holveck, who noted that a ten-game season where every team plays every weekend, takes its toll.
"I know they weren't at full strength," said the Coast Guard Coach. "I really respect that club, they come out fighting regardless of what the predicted outcome will be and they keep learning and working."
The same could be said of Coast Guard, which will face Indiana University of Pennsylvania this coming Saturday in the 1st round of the playoffs. The winner of that game has the honor of playing Towson in the Round of 16.
