Claremont Colleges Wins Gold Coast Clash With CSULB
Claremont Colleges defeated Cal State Long Beach in a clash of the top two teams in the Gold Coast Conference.
These two teams will seek a national championship in two different divisions, with CSULB going on to the DIAA playoffs, while Claremont Colleges is looking for an NSCRO national title. So this was a game mostly for bragging rights, and Claremont Colleges gets those rights. No. 8 Chance Sears was a powerhouse for Claremont on the day. He scored two tries while scrumhalf Lucas Hackett-Provenzano, wing Max Sickinger, and center Connor Lehner also touched down.
Fullback Matt Grindlingh is human and finally missed a kick. Still he netted 16 points with four conversions, a penalty goal, and the first try of the day.
For Long Beach State, fullback David Arredondo was once again excellent. Head Coach Jason Reynolds said he was hoping to see where his team is with this game, and he fond out some things.
"We are at our best when we're running onto the ball and going forward," he said. "But our discipline needs to be better."
One piece of good news coming out of this game was that the 49ers may have fixed their goalkicking woes. Flyhalf Jacob Cortinas was 3-for-4 with his conversions Saturday, and that had been a concern going into the game.
