Cascade Cup HS Competition Coming to a Head
The Cascade HS rugby conference is coming down to the wire this month.
Played in eastern Washington state (and most of the state is eastern as it means the east side of the Cascade mountains), the league includes six teams that are all quite widely spread: Schoolhouse (Wenatchee), Yakima, Ellensburg, Liberty Lake (Spokane), Moscow (Idaho), and Tri Cities.
The teams don’t play in the Rugby Washington’s playoffs because of the distances involved, but they are part of RugbyWa. Instead these teams play for the Cascade Cup, which will be decided May 20.
But how it is decided gets figured out this weekend.
This weekend Schoolhouse takes on Liberty Lake out of Spokane this weekend. Liberty Lake has already lost a close game to Moscow, and Moscow has already lost a close game to Schoolhouse.
So if Liberty Lake wins this weekend all three teams will have the same record, so they will play a round-robin on May 20.
Schoolhouse, however, would like to eliminate Liberty Lake from the equation and can with a victory. Schoolhouse wins, they play Moscow for the Cascade Cup on May 20.
Schoolhouse will be looking once more to Colby King. Fast and elusive, King has scored 200 tries in his time at Schoolhouse—he will be looking for a few more this weekend.
