Canada Names NACRA Travel Squad
LANGFORD, BC – Canada Men’s Sevens Team’s head coach Liam Middleton has named 14 players to his traveling squad for the NACRA 7s Championships this coming weekend in Cary, NC.
Canada is looking to rebound from an up-and-down season to win qualification to the 2016 Olympic Games. To that end, Middleston has added three Europe-based pros to the team - Jeff Hassler, Tyler Ardron, and Taylor Paris. Also coming back to the squad is Phil Mack, who was sorely missed during the season after his injury layoff.
The team is captained by John Moonlight, while Connor Braid, Mike Fuailefau, Adam Zaruba, Harry Jones, Nathan Hirayama, Conor Trainor and Sean Duke all keep their places. Also back from injury are Justin Douglas and Ciaran Hearn, who has been a thorn in the USA's side for some years. Ardron is a big, rangy 15s lock/flanker who has captained the Canada 15s team. He provides some needed physicality to the team, while Paris is an experienced 7s player with plenty of page.
Canada was drawn into Pool B where they will face Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas.
