Boys School HS Rugby Rankings Week 10
Boys School HS Rugby Rankings Week 10
We're probably going to get some ... well maybe not hate mail, but perhaps "displeased mail" on this one.
Yes, true, #1 De La Salle won again, and should very little weakness. Why drop them down? Yes, sure, Jesuit of New Orleans won a game, again, so why drop them a spot? Do the analysts at GRR World HQ even understand what rugby is?
OK, first off, the other stuff. Capital HS drops out and BC High is back in, but we need to see some games played in Massachusetts, which is why MIAA teams are so low.
Pennsylvania's games aren't league games yet so again they loiter a bit.
Now to the Top 10. Here's how we see it.

De La Salle has played teams outside their region, but only Southern California, which is, like, attached. We haven't seen them outside California. That is a very mild criticism ... DLS could easily has stayed #1 with that resume simply because we know the other teams in Northern California, plus Torrey Pines, are very strong.
But we didn't. We moved DLS to #2 and St. Ignatius to #1, and that's almost entirely on SIHS's opposition. They have played three teams, all ranked highly, and all teams that did something impressive in other action. So, St. Ignatius beats Royal Irish, only to see Royal Irish beat Fort Hunt this week. And remember they beat Royal Irish (shorthanded as they were) by a significant margin. Next up, they beat Bishop Dwenger, a team that this week won well over Detroit Central Catholic, a team we haven't ranked yet, but could be ranked. And then, this week we had Gonzaga at #2 and Ignatius at #3. A #3 beating a #3 is a good reason to move said #3 to #1. When the score is 34-5, well, you have our attention.
So De La Salle's seven games, all comfortable wins, versus the three wins of St. Ignatius could easily give DLS the edge. The high ranking of SIHS's opponents might give them a slight edge. In the end, for now, it's SIHS because they emphatically beat a team we know is very, very good. But we could be wrong.
NOLA Jesuit moving down is a little easier to explain. Staples beat a solid Georgetown Prep team by a significant margin. That's basically it. Staples deserves to move up significantly. Can Jesuit move uop again? Sure.
