Boys 2021 School HS Rankings Week 2

Of course starting a ranking each year is difficult, and starting it after all this shutdown (lack of) activity is even more difficult.

We still don't know for sure which teams will suit up, although we're getting a clearer picture of that every day.

With that in mind we've put a few teams we expect to play soon but that haven't played into a "watch out for ..." list at the bottom. Coming into the rankings then are six teams that played a game this past weekend, plus two that played the week before, and one that is slated to play very soon. We've moved St. Thomas Aquinas up to #1. Now, if you're a Dallas Jesuit fan you've got to wonder how Jesuit wins a game and drops down. Well, this early in the season it can happen. Actually, it can happen any time. The reason is that Aquinas beat the team we had at #2 in emphatic fashion. Bixby had been #2 because they had beaten a team in emphatic fashion.

Jesuit's opponents at the moment aren't quite the same known quantities. But it's not as if we dropped Dallas Jesuit down very far. Instead, we get a good cross-border indicator this week because St. Pius X goes to New Orleans. If Pius does well against Jesuit New Orleans then maybe Strake, which beat Pius this week, moves up.

We got Brother Martin vs Jesuit New Orleans right—a one-point game between teams separated by one level in the rankings. St. Paul's comes in after a nice win over the Bayou Hurricanes. The teams that went 2-0 in the Moeller kickoff tournament all come in.

And another big question is St. Ignatius. They lost by a lot to the Charlotte Tigers, but part of our job is to decide when a result like that is because team A is really good or team B is not. We saw the game, and Ignatius can play; it's just that in our estimation Charlotte is really, really good. So, for the time being, Ignatius doesn't drop down too far. If they falter against St. Xavier this week maybe that's a different conversation.
