Girls National Championship Historical Champions
Girls National Championship Historical Champions
Historical Champions in the Girls NIT.
In 2000, a group of girls HS team got together to host their own national championship. They did this for eight years before USA Rugby took the competition under their organization. The USA Rugby Girls National Championship lasted for four season, 2008-2011, before USA Rugby made it a National Invitational tournament in 2012.
The organization decided not to hold an NIT in 2013, and a committee of girls HS teams formed a new NIT panel, and resurrected the competition. That panel runs the NIT now.
On May 18, 2014 Fallbrook (Calif.) defeated the Sacramento (Calif.) Amazons 27-17 to win their fourth straight NIT.
The girls national championships have been surprisingly consistent with regard to the teams at the top of the heap. Kent (Wash.) has won only one championship, but has made a total of five finals. Fallbrook, too, has appeared in five finals.
The most decorated program is Diivine Savior Holy Angels, which finished 3rd in 2014. DSHA, of Milwaukee, Wisc., has made eight finals and won six times. All told, of the 30 finalists since 2000, 18 have come from three teams.
