California Girls Teams Strong in GNC
Southern California’s girls select side was outstanding in Saturday play in the Great Northwest Challenge.
With good teamwork from the forwards and with freshman fullback Lilly Durbin torching defenses every time they left her some space, the Griffins defeated Washington handily and crushed a combined NorCal/Oregon side.
“We worked hard on a team approach,” said coach Craig Pinnell. “The team aspect is a big part of it. We wanted players to not think about just thinking about themselves, but the team as a group. They’ve been doing that.”
Meanwhile, Northern California was equally impressive, beating Montana, as expected, and then thundering over a very good Oregon team 46-5.
On Sunday, Montana plays NorCal/Oregon for 5th, and the top four meet in the semifinals, with Northern California playing Washington and Southern California v Oregon.
NorCal’s power should see them home, while SoCal’s speed and passing just stretches defenses too much.
