2015 Girls HS Championship Now Accepting Teams
The 16th Annual Girls High School Rugby National Invitational Championship (GNIC) will be held Friday-Sunday, May 15-17, 2015, at Founder’s Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. Organized by the National Girls’ Coaches Committee (NGCC) and the Pittsburgh Harlequins, the elite tournament will feature division one and division two championships, with the possibility of a third division championship.
Opening ceremonies will kick off on Friday, May 15 at 7pm, to be followed by Saturday quarterfinals and semifinals for each division. The finals for each division will be played Sunday morning and early afternoon.
The first girls’ national invitational was held in 2000 and involved six teams. As a result of increasing competition and the desire for a venue to challenge top high school programs, the event has expanded into multiple divisions of competition. This is not a select-side event. Combined sides are not allowed and all athletes must be high school students in order to compete.
Competitive high school girls’ teams wishing to compete must fill out and return an application to NGCC member Anthony Sasso by February 1, 2015. (Click HERE for the application, then "File/Download As" to personalize your entry). A non-refundable $500 entry fee and an appearance deposit will be required to accept a bid to the GNIC. Divisions and seeding will be decided the week of the tournament by the NGCC, who will take into account current records, including the most recent regional and state playoff competitions.
Inquiries regarding competition questions may be directed to members of the NGCC (below). Venue questions should be directed to host and tournament director Matt Rosemeyer. We welcome and encourage those teams with aspirations of high-level play to this highly competitive event.
