It seems like we have something new and something classic in the NCR D1AA semifinals.
Something classic would be Louisville vs Bowling Green, which features two teams that play each other twice a year just about every year (once in regular MAC conference play and, usually, once in the MAC playoffs, generally the final).
Did St. Bonaventure put it all together perfectly or did Brown lose the plot?
Maybe it was a bit of both. As the NCR Men’s D1 semifinals loom talk is still about how the defending champion Brown side faltered to the tune of 51-7 to Bonnies in the quarterfinals. Bonnies winning wasn’t the surprise, it was the manner of the winning.
Once again Vermont won big over tough opposition as the final four teams in NCR's Men's D2 competition was finalized Sunday.
Overall through the NCR Men's D1 playoffs, ARC teams are 8-1.
And that one loss? To another ARC team. All four semifinalists slated to play the weekend of December 6 are from the same conference.
A day after St. Bonaventure surprised everyone with a lopsided win over Brown, Walsh beat Marian in a tight one, Belmont Abbey beat Notre Dame, and Queens beat Wheeling.
In something of a shock result, St. Bonaventure won handily over #1-ranked Brown 51-7 in NCR's D1 quarterfinals.
Bonnies winning wasn't the shock—it was in the cards, certainly—but winning by 44 was not expected.
But Head Coach Danny Neighbour had faith.
