WSU Hosts Palouse 7s
The second annual Palouse 7s kicks off Saturday at Washington State University in this the third week of college 7s tournaments in the Pacific Northwest.
WSU heads up their pool, which includes Idaho, North Idaho, and WSU II. Central Washington is favored in this tournament and they take on WSU Tri Cities, Gonzaga, and Boise State in their pool.
Eastern Washington are joined by Pacific, New St. Andrew’s, and Washington. And in the fourth pool, it’s Western Washington, WWU II, Idaho State, and Whitman.
WWU is looking to bounce back from a rough 2013-14 season and many of their younger players have been playing against British Columbia-based U20 teams. With such a big squad they are actually playing a 15s game against University of Puget Sound this weekend while they send two 7s squads to Pullman. WWU finished 6th in the Viking 7s, which featured several very strong Canadian teams. They were the 2nd-placed American team, behind CWU.
Central Washington continues to be the standard-bearer in both 7s and 15s in the PNW. But there is talent elsewhere. Washington is rebuilding but talented, and WSU has been playing better and better over the fall, and could be a candidate for the final.
