Women DI College 7s - Day One
Women DI College 7s - Day One
Not a lot to report from the Women's DI college 7s nationals on Day One as a relatively small group of teams played just the one round of games.
Our preview is here (which also explains the format), but we can summarize - we liked a lot of the teams, but especially Penn State, Life, Lindenwood, and Virginia. UVA lost, but the rest did fine.
Penn State didn't play, because their pool has only three teams. So the Nittany Lions got a bye. Life thumped Texas A&M 52-0. Kimberly Semiglia scored four tries, and four others scored one each in a 52-0 rout. Central Washington also did as expected, and won 31-5 over North Carolina.
James Madison salvaged a try against UC Davis after Kayla Cook went the distance with just a couple of minutes left. That game ended 12-12.
Stanford put in a really nice performance in beating a good UVA team 19-5. Maya Theuer, Madeline Wilson, and Fiona Meyer-Teruel all touched down for the Cardinal. Lindenwood took care of Chico State, with Sorensen Award finalist McKenzie Hawkins scoring two tries and converting two, while Annakaren Pedraza added two of her own in a 31-5 victory.
So Penn State is yet to play, but Life, CWU, Stanford, and Lindenwood are all 1-0. UC Davis and James Madison go into Day Two 0-0-1.
