What the Heck is Happening in Singapore?

It was pool play of huge surprises in the Singapore 7s, at least where the USA was concerned.

The high-flying women's team, which had an eye on getting to the #3 seed, were edged late by South Africa, and beaten fairly comprehensively by Japan. They followed that up with a loss to France (more likely than losses to the other two) and 0-3 in Pool Play.

This is all somewhat astonishing for a team that seemed to be on a roll.

The frustratingly inconsistent men's team, for their part, blew away Fiji 33-12 with tries from Lucas Lacamp, Kevon Williams, Perry Baker, Aaron Cummings, and Malacchi Esdale. Fiji matched them try-for-try in the early going but were then left in the dust.

They followed that up with a tense win over Ireland (it seems like all opf the games against Ireland are tense) thanks to tries from Williams and the ageless Baker either side of halftime.

Next up is Great Britain, who also beat Fiji and who are the team the Eagles need to keep at bay in order to secure a spot in the end-of-season playoff. There is still work to do, but a good win over GB helps the Eagles and could, potentially, secure them 8th.

Update, and it's not good news.
