Varsity Cup Brackets Set
The Varsity Cup has finalized its bracket for the spring invitational knockout season.
This year, 16 teams are participating, meaning no byes for anyone.
Three-time defending champion BYU faces Arizona State in the opening round. Three-time runner-up Cal plays Texas.
The Varsity Cup has been in action since 2013, with the final played at BYU's South Field that year, and at Rio Tinto Stadium the two years after. The same four teams - BYU, Cal, Central Washington, and Navy - have been in the semifinals all three years.
Round 1 is April 9:
Bracket 1
BYU at Arizona State
Penn State at Dartmouth
(Winners play at either Penn State or Dartmouth April 16)
Bracket 2
Clemson at Arkansas State
Notre Dame at Navy
(Winners play at either Notre Dame or Navy April 16)
Bracket 3
Texas at Cal
Oklahoma at Army
(Winners play at either Oklahoma or Army April 16)
Bracket 4
UCLA at Central Washington
Air Force at Utah
(Winners play at either Air Force or Utah April 16)
The winners of Brackets 1 and 2 play off in the semifinal April 23. Likewise, winners of Brackets 3 and 4 play off in a semi on the same day.
The final at Rio Tinto May 7 will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, but the other round games will not. Those rounds may well be webcast or possibly shown on TV depending on the host team and venue.
