Utah Lions Girls Dominate at United World Games
The Utah Lions Rugby Academy girls team won the Rugby 7s competition at the United World Games in Klagenfurt, Austria last week.
The team, made up of top girls players from the Beehive State, faced opposition from Australia, Hungary, and Germany, including major national academies. The Lions dominated, allowing exactly zero points in the tournament.
They opened the tournament with a 46-0 win over Esztergomi Vitézek of Hungary and then defeated German team FC St. Pauli von 1910 48-0. Then up next was Rugby Union Donau Wien of Austria, a championship club out of the host country, and the Lions defeated them 57-0. The round-robin play was finished with a 59-0 defeat of a German All-Star team.
The teams were re-seeded after round-robin play, with Utah obviously 1st and FC St. Paul taking second by going 3-1. In the final, the Utah Lions shut out FC St. Paul once more, this time 52-0.
In the five games of the tournament, the Lions won all five, and by an average score of 52-0.
